According to the American Hair Loss Association, “women make up 40 percent of American hair loss sufferers.” Whether caused by cancer treatment, alopecia, hereditary hair loss or other medical conditions, women facing these challenges also deal with poor self-image. The emotional toll, along with cost-prohibitive remedies, including high-quality wigs, contribute to each sufferer’s overall well-being.
Committed to creating a sense of normalcy, Christal Schanes, an Emmy-winning TV/film hair stylist (Saturday Night Live), established WIGwell – an initiative providing free custom wigs to women experiencing medically-related hair loss - through her company, CHRISTAline Studios. The company, which offers ready-to-wear and custom hair products and services, devotes 20% of its proceeds from the sale of every product to support its community giving endeavor.
CHRISTAline Studios is on a mission to support as many women as possible with its WIGwell initiative. As each free custom wig is hand-tied from 100,000 human hairs, takes 125 hours to create, and has a market value of $5,000, the company recently launched its first-ever “Wacky Wig Challenge,” an online giving campaign to help with funding.
Christal is available for in-person interviews and field segments and may serve as a hair and beauty expert with a particular focus on hair and wig care for hair loss sufferers.
